Edit the Banner Title

About Banner Titles

The Banner Title element combines colorful shapes and text to convey essential information about the current page. It includes five supported fields that you can customize based on context: Prefix 1, Prefix 2, Title, Subtitle, and Description. Let’s break it down:

Title: Indicates the page title (note that DesignPLUS hides the Canvas Page Title by default).
Prefix 1 and 2: Provides contextual information for the current page—think course names, module titles, and more.
Subtitle and Description: Provides additional page/course information when needed (not commonly used).

The key to success with Banner Titles is editing within the DesignPlus Sidebar, not the Canvas RCE. Modifying the text directly in Canvas often disrupts the formatting. Instead, utilize the Content panel in the Banner Title element, as explained in the exercise below.

Exercise: Add or Update Text in the Banner Title

After adding a Banner Title to a Page, depending on the Page’s purpose, you may need to update the Prefix 1, Prefix 2 and/or Title. You can also take advantage of the optional subtitle and description fields. Follow these instructions to modify the text in the Banner Title:

If needed, select Edit to modify this Page. Then, return to these directions.
If the DesignPLUS Sidebar doesn't open automatically, use your preferred keyboard shortcut to launch it.
In the Canvas RCE, place your cursor anywhere within the Banner Title element at the top of the page.
In the DesignPLUS Sidebar, select the Edit Current Element tab.
Select Banner Title as the active tool.
Open the Content panel to locate the available text fields and the current values in each:
1. In the Prefix 1 field in the Sidebar, delete "DesignPLUS." Then, in the Prefix 2 field, enter "DesignPLUS." Updates will appear in the Canvas RCE as you move your cursor out of each field.
2. The Title should have been auto-populated with the saved Canvas Page Title. In the DesignPLUS Sidebar, in the Title field, add "How To" at the beginning, and notice in the Canvas RCE how this changes the appearance of the Banner Title.
3. The Subtitle and Description fields are used less frequently but are available if needed. For now, in these fields in the DesignPLUS Sidebar, add a short subtitle and a longer description for the Page, and notice the changes in the Canvas RCE. Once again, the Page will update when you move your cursor out of each field.
Select the Save button at the bottom of the Page to view your changes. Then, return to these directions to finish reviewing the information. You will not need to make any additional edits.
You may have noticed that the large Canvas Page Title for the Page is automatically hidden, so users see just one title instead of two. If you need to force the Canvas Page Title to display for any reason, edit the Banner Title element and in the Content panel, select the Show Canvas Title box.

About the Prefixes and Title

The default values for Prefix 1 and Prefix 2 are “Name” and “##.” These fields are especially useful when creating content to duplicate using the Module Builder with the Cidi Labs Multi-ToolLinks to an external site.. However, when Pages won’t be duplicated with the Module Builder, replace one or both fields with meaningful information about the course or module.
